
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College Athletics Department announced Tuesday night, May 3, that sophomore Jordan Harrison (St. Marys HS / St. Marys, Kan.) of the softball team and sophomore Alan Lopez (Dodge City HS / Dodge City, Kan.) of the men's soccer team were selected as the 2022-23 Female and Male Athletes of the Year. In addition, freshman Rhett Hendricks (Kickapoo HS / Springfield, Mo. ) of the baseball team was the top male Academic Athlete of the Year and the top female Academic Athletes of the Year are sophomores Sheryah Gavel (Lee's Summit West HS / Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Riley Porter (Piper HS / Kansas City, Kan.) of the women's soccer team, sophomore Addyson Mock (Blue Valley HS / Stilwell, Kan.) of the volleyball team and Harrison of the softball team.
Harrison is a key reason the JCCC softball team is ranked 13th in the country and Kansas Jayhawk Conference Division II champions. A five-time conference pitcher of the week selection this year, Harrison leads the conference ERA (1.55), ranks second in the wins (19-2) and complete games (13), and third in strikeouts (152). Earlier this season she hurled just the eighth perfect game in team history. She is also a dangerous hitter, batting .534 (31-for-58) with four doubles, a team-leading seven home runs, 13 runs and 26 driven in. She has produced nine multiple-hit games, including two games which she blasted two home runs, and has seven games with two or more RBI.
For her career, Harrison has a record of 29-9 with 263 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.94. Her 29 wins current rank tied for 17th all-time. With a deep run in the playoffs, she will move into the top-10. An all-conference and all-district selection last year, Harrison is a shoe in to repeat those accolades and potentially add All-America to her resume'.
Lopez had an amazing sophomore season helping guide the Cavaliers men's soccer program to a conference title, a runner-up district finish, a final No. 14 national ranking while becoming one of the most decorated players in team history. Lopez was selected as a first-team All-American by both the National Junior College Athletic Association and United Soccer Coaches. He also earned first-team All-Region 6/Plains District and first-team All-Kansas Jayhawk Conference East Division honors.
Last fall, Lopez led JCCC, ranked second in the conference and 16th in the NJCAA with 33 points. He also ranked fourth in the conference and tied for 21st in the NJCAA with 13 goals scored. Lopez produced three multiple goal matches and scored four game winning goals, third most in the conference and 11th in the NJCAA. Twice during the season was selected the KJCCC Men's Division I Offensive Player of the Week and NJCAA National Offensive Player of the Week once.
In addition to his on the field accolades, Lopez was also honored nationally for his success in the classroom. He was was one of 11 student-athletes named to the Men's Junior College first-team and he was named the Scholar Player of the Year, the first in JCCC men's soccer history. He along with the other student-athletes on this year's Scholar All-America Teams were formally acknowledged for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention
For his career Lopez finished with 63 points, 23 goals, 17 assists and six game winning goals. His 63-points rank tied for fourth all-time a JCCC. He also ranks sixth in career goals, fourth in career assists and tied the career mark for game winning goals with six.
Lopez was also as first-team all-conference selection last year and was also twice named player of the week.
