OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The 22-game win streak by 8th-ranked Johnson County Community College baseball team came to an end yesterday with a 5-2 loss to Fort Scott in the first game of a four-game series. However, the Cavaliers bounced back to take the second game 12-3 and remain in first place in the conference race with a 13-1 record. 

In the opener, the Greyhounds plated three runs in the top of the seventh and had a four-run cushion when JCCC came up for its final at bat. The Cavaliers got one run across, but Fort Scott closed the door to hand Johnson County its first loss since Feb. 25. 

Sophomore right fielder Anthony Amicangelo had an RBI double and freshman utility player Vince Donato had an RBI single for the Cavaliers.  

Sophomore right-hander Zachary Ebert suffered his first setback of the 2019 season. He pitched all seven innings, allowing five runs, two earned, off seven hits and seven strikeouts. He is now 7-1 on the season, and 13-6 over his wo seasons. He also became the program's all-time strikeout leader with 172. 

In the second game, Johnson County got their offense rolling again led by leadoff hitter Landen Wood. He was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two stolen bases and two RBIs. Wood is batting .441 on the season and leads the Cavaliers in runs scored with 50 and stolen bases with 37. He is currently tied for ninth on JCCC's season steals chart. 

Freshman catcher Noah Cook has a season-best four hits, which included a double, scored three times and drove in two runs. Freshman DH Evan Bergman had a single and a double and drove in two and sophomore first baseman Malik Williams was 3-for-5 with an RBI. 

Amicangelo, sophomore shortstop Chris Esposito, sophomore third baseman Blake Shannon and sophomore infielder Mason Hartman each had one RBI. 

Sophomore right-hander Dylan Bierman improved to 5-1 on the season after allowing just one run and one hit with eight strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Freshman right-hander Paul Rector followed and allowed two runs in 1.2 innings of work, and freshman Jon Moll closed out the game pitching 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
