OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 6-ranked Johnson County Community College baseball team improved to 33-4 on the season with an 8-2 home win over Metropolitan Community College, yesterday. Seven of the Cavaliers' eight runs were scored in the first and eighth innings. 

Freshman leadoff hitter Landen Wood was 3-for-4 with a run scored and a run driven in. He also had a stolen base. 

No. 2 hitter, sophomore right fielder Anthony Amicangelo had a double and drove in two runs. Sophomore first baseman and 2018 All-American Malik Williams belted a solo home run over left center in the third inning, and sophomore shortstop Chris Esposito, this week's KJCCC Player of the Week selection, had a single and RBI. 

Johnson County used six pitchers in the game against the Wolves. Sophomore left-hander Anthony Jordan Shaw got the start and his first win. He pitched three innings, and gave up two hits, one run with two strikeouts. 

He was followed by freshman right-hander Drew Garrett who pitched one inning and had two strikeouts. Freshman left-hander Jake Deakins logged two innings and allowed a hit with a strikeout. Sophomore right-hander Cam Wynne had two strikeouts in his inning of work, and freshman right-hander Will Heller pitched two-thirds of an inning allowing two walks, a run and strikeout.  

Freshman right-hander Paul Rector closed out the final 1.1 innings to pick up his fourth save of the season. He allowed just one walk and struck out four batters. Rector's four saves tie for fourth in the conference. 

Johnson County is scheduled to travel across town to take on Kansas City Kansas Community College for first two of four-game series on Thursday, April 11. The final two games are scheduled at JCCC on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m.
