OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – With an 8-3 loss to Barton Community College in the consolation bracket of the Central District Tournament, the 13-ranked Johnson County Community College baseball team saw its once promising 2019 season come to an end over the weekend. The Cavaliers finished the season 46-12.

The Cavaliers were one of the best teams in the country in both batting and pitching, but hat their struggles against the Cougars.

Johnson County managed just five hits and three runs over Barton starter Easton Smith. He earned a complete game victory going all nine innings.

Sophomore right-hander Sloan Thomsen was on the hill for the Cavaliers. Prior to this start, Thomsen was a perfect 10-0 with 70 strikeouts in 67.1 innings pitched. He lasted just 1.1 innings, giving up five runs off four hits, all in the second inning. He closes out the year with a 10-1 record and a 3.67 ERA.

Sophomore right-hander Dylan Beirman took over and hurled six scoreless innings before giving up three in the top of the ninth.

The Cavaliers got single runs in the first, third and fifth. Freshman Derek Abeln hit a solo home run, and sophomores Anthony Amicangelo and Mason Hartman produced RBI singles. Amicangelo closed out his campaign with a league-leading batting average of .492. That ranks as the second-best season average at JCCC, and sets a new career mark for the Cavaliers.
