
SALINA, Kan. – The Johnson County baseball team parlayed10 singles and 10 base-on-ball into a 9-1 victory over Kansas City Kansas in the second round of the Region 6/Plains District Tournament at Dean Evans Stadium in Salina, Kansas Wednesday afternoon.
The Cavaliers also got dominant pitching from starter Christian Bobzin and reliever Keston Holman. Bobzin pitched the first four innings, allowing one run off two hits with four strikeouts. Holeman scattered four singles, zero runs and struck out nine batters in his four innings of work.
JCCC's top five hitters in the lineup provided most of the damage. Leadoff hitter Jake McClure was 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored. Bo Shinkle had two hits, two walks and two runs, and the Cavaliers three, four and five hitters, Miken Miller, Jeremy Comer and Boston Bruce each drove in two runs.
Johnson County was also dangerous on the base paths, sealing six bases, led by two steals by Ryker Edwards. McClure, Miller, Comer and Chris Mancinas each stole one bag.
Johnson County, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, will take No. 4 seed Cowley on Thursday at 4 p.m.
