High powered offense spurs Cavaliers to 49-point win

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's basketball team is currently scoring on a pace to set a new standard in team history, averaging 93.8 points per game over 18 games this season. They surpassed that total easily on Monday night, defeating Graceland University JV 120-71 to improve to 15-3 on the season. The 120 points they tallied tie the sixth-highest scoring game in team history, and it is the fourth-highest total by a Mike Jeffers coached team. 

Johnson County jumped out to an early 10-point advantage and by halftime the Cavaliers had a 28-point lead, 57-29. 

All 15 players scored and the team shot 59.1 percent for the game, and 46.2 percent from 3-point range. 

Sophomore forward David Turner hit all nine of his shot attempts, and was 2-for-2 at the line to lead Johnson County with 20 points. His perfect night shooting upped his season field percentage to 68.5, tops in the Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference and sixth-best in the NJCAA. He also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots. He now has 42 blocks on the season, which leads the conference by 26 and ranks fourth nationally. He now has 103 for his career, third-most in team history. 

Freshman forward Isiah Sears had 17 point points and nine rebounds off the bench. He hit 7-of-10 shots, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range. 

Sophomore guard General Williams and freshman guard Nic Slavin also finished in double digits. Williams had 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting, and Slavin had 11, going 4-for-8 with three 3-pointers. 

Others who provided key efforts were freshman forward Lukas Milner (9 points, 2 blocks); freshman guard JaQuaylon Mays (8 points); sophomore forward Xavier Womack (8 points, 6 rebounds); freshman guard A.J. Pleasant (3 points, 9 assists); sophomore guard Nick Larkin (4 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists); sophomore forward Malik Kalimullah-Jackson (6 points, 6 rebounds), freshman guard Jackson Nicodemus (6 points) and freshman guard Macaleb Hughes (5 points, 5 rebounds). 

Johnson County (15-3) continues its non-conference slate on Wednesday, Jan. 16, when they host North Central Missouri College at 7 p.m., followed by Ottawa University JV on Friday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m.
