OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 9 ranked Johnson County Community men's basketball posted a 61-59 win at Kansas City Kansas Community College to earn a share of the Jayhawk Conference Division II title. It is the Cavaliers and head coach Mike Jeffers third title if the last four years.   

"I am really proud of this team," Jeffers said. "They have worked hard and diligently to accomplish another conference championship. It is great now, but it will be a lot more to them years from now" 

Johnson County (26-4/9-1) shared the title with Highland Community College (27-2/9-1), but the Cavaliers earned the No. 2 seed in the Region VI playoffs by losing the coin flip.  They will host the winner of Fort Scott/Hesston on Saturday, March 2, at 4 p.m. 

JCCC's starters accounted for 53 of the team's 61 points. Sophomore guard General Williams led all scorers with 21 points, hitting 6-of-17 shots, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range. He was also 4-of-6 at the free throw line, and pulled down six rebounds. 

Sophomore forward David Turner had a big afternoon as he became just the third player to post a triple-double in team history. He finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. His 10 blocks are the second-best single game effort in team history. He now has 82 blocks this season and 143 for his career. He just two blocks shy of the season record at JCCC and nine short of the career mark. He currently ranks second in the NJCAA for total blocks. 

Sophomore forward Xavier Womack posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. 

Johnson County had one of its worst shooting efforts of the season, hitting just 31 percent from the field. They held KCKCC to just 32 percent and forced 17 turnovers.
