OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team survived its first road test of the 2019-20 campaign by downing Southeast Community College 95-82 in Beatrice, Neb., last night, improving to 2-0 on the season. 

The Cavaliers shot over 50 percent from the field for the second straight game, as four players finished in double figures, and two others had nine points. 

Sophomore guard JaQuaylon Mays led Johnson County with a career high 23 points. His previous high was 20 points. Mays hit 8-of-15 shots, including all three of his 3-point attempts, and was had four free throws.  He also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists. 

Sophomore center Lukas Milner followed with 12 points, and he pulled down 11 rebounds for his first career double-double. He also blocked a career high five shots. 

Freshmen guard Dale Talley III and Braijion Barnes each scored 10 points. Talley also had seven boards and Barnes dished out four assists.

Southeast sophomore guard Jaden Coleman led all scorers with 33 points. He was 8-of-13 from the field, with two treys, and 15-of-17 at the free throw line. 

The two teams combined for 55 fouls and 69 free throw attempts. Johnson County was 20-for-33 for 61 percent, while the Storm hit 29-of-36 at the line for 81 percent. 

The Cavaliers will host Central Methodist University Black Reserve team on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
