OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 1-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team needed a second half rally to remain unbeaten defeating Quakerdale Prep Academy, 81-64 at the Highland Classic Saturday afternoon.
The Cavaliers shot just 29 percent from the field in the first half and trailed Quakerdale Prep 31-29 after 20 minutes. Johnson County executed a lot better in the second half, shooting 64 percent while turning a two-point deficit into a 17-point victory. it was Mike Jeffers 480th carer victory as the Cavaliers' head coach.
Sophomore center Lukas Milner led Johnson County with 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting. He also grabbed seven rebounds.
Sophomore guard JaQuaylon Mays followed with 15 points, along with a team-high six assists and four boards.
Sophomore guard Kylan Thomas and freshman guard Braijion Barnes each contributed 11 points. Thomas also had five rebounds, two assists, a block and three steals. Barned was credited with eight boards and three assists.
Sophomore guard Macaleb Hughes led the Cavaliers with 11 rebounds, and added eight points and two assists.
Other key efforts were posted by sophomore Nic Slavin (8 points) and freshman Skyler Rhoads (7 points, 5 rebounds)
Trey Drummon led Quakerdale Prep with 15 points, followed by Cam Armstrong with 13.
The Cavaliers (6-0) return to action Tuesday, Nov. 19, when they host the University of Saint Mary JV at 7 p.m.
