Men’s soccer advances to Plains District Tournament

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's soccer team moved a step closer to qualifying for the NJCAA National Tournament. The Cavaliers defeated Neosho County Community College 2-1 on Friday, Nov. 1, and move on to the Plains District Tournament at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan., Wednesday, Nov. 6.  

Johnson County (11-5-3) will face University of Arkansas Rich Mountain (8-3-5) at 7 p.m. The other semifinal match pits Cowley College (12-1-2) against Hill College (11-4-0). The two winners will play for the tournament title on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. 

In the victory over Neosho County, sophomore forward Brad Tulley put the Cavaliers on the board in the 70th minute with his sixth score of the season. Freshman defender Chavoy Malcolm provided the assists, his first of the campaign. 

Five minutes later Tulley found sophomore defender Delverone Simpson to up JCCC's advantage to 2-nil.  The goal was Simpson's first of the year. 

Neosho County managed to cut the lead with a goal in 89th minute, but the Cavaliers managed to run out the clock to pick up the win and advance to the next round in the playoffs. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Pedro Ivaskowski made three saves and improved to 11-5-3 overall.
