OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The 12th-ranked Johnson County Community College was in action on Thursday afternoon at No. 5 ranked Highland Community College. The Lady Scotties earned a walk-off 6-5 win in the first game, but the Lady Cavaliers rebounded in the second game, bombarding Highland 22-2. Johnson County now stands 16-9 and 12-2 in the conference and still in first place. 

In the opener, Johnson County scored single runs in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to erase a two-run deficit and tie the score a 5-5. However, Highland earned the walk-off victory with a run in the bottom half of the seventh. 

Most of JCCC's offense was provided by outfielders Ivy Brewer and Emily Fox. Brewer had two singles and a triple, scored twice and drove in a run.  Fox had a double and drove in three runs. 

Sophomore right-hander Kerrigan Dixon started and pitched 3.1 innings. She allowed five runs, one earned, off two hits and seven free passes.  Freshman right-hander Hallie Henderson pitched the final 3.2 innings and picked up the loss. 

In the second game, Johnson County scored 13 runs in the third inning and tacked on another six in the fifth for the 20-run, five-inning victory. 

Brewer belted two home runs, scored four times and drove in four runs.  Sophomore catcher Kerry Murphy had a single, double and home run and she also scored four times and drove in four. 

Freshman third baseman Alli Heiman was 2-for-5 with four RBIs, freshman DP Manny Johansen, sophomore first baseman Jordyn Clough and freshman shortstop Dez Duncan each drove in two runs.  Fox finished 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and four runs scored. 

Freshman right-hander Kyleigh Lay struck out eight over her five innings of work, and allowed just two runs off four hits.  The win evened her record on the season to 2-2. 

Johnson County will host Kansas City Kansas Community College (29-13/10-4) in a conference double header on Saturday, April 13. First pitch is at Noon.
