OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College women's basketball coach Ben Conrad might have a new appreciation of his bench players. His seven reserves accounted for 53 of the Lady Cavaliers' 71 point and helped Johnson County pull out a 71-65 win over No. 16 Labette Community College. 

Johnson County's starting five where held to just 18 total points, and their leading scorer, freshman forward KK Jackson-Morris who averages 14.1 points per game, did not score, so someone from the bench needed to step up. 

That was sophomore transfer Sydni Tears. She was a perfect 5-of-5 shooting, including a 3-pointer, and was 2-of-2 at the free throw line for a team-high 13 points. She also pulled down 10 rebounds, her fourth double-double of the season. 

Freshman guards Brandi Thibeaux, Dallie Hoskinson and Christen Curry also put up key efforts to help secure the victory. Thibeaux tallied nine points and seven rebounds. Hoskinson had eight points, going 8-of-8 at the line, and registered seven boards. Curry also added eighth points. 

Other key reserves for sophomore Jacionna Stowers (7 points), freshman Trayonna Byrd (5 points, 3 rebounds) and sophomore Juella Brown (3 points, 6 rebounds). 

The win pull Johnson County (25-3) into a three-way tie for second in the conference race with Highland and Labette at 5-3. Kansas City Kansas leads the race at 7-1, but have two tough remaining games to their season. They travel to No. 5 Highland on tonight, and host the ninth-ranked Lady Cavaliers on Saturday.  Johnson County travels to Hesston tonight, before ending the regular season against the Lady Blue Devils.
