Eighth-ranked Lady Cavaliers open season with a 95-51 win over Southwestern

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 8-ranked Johnson County Community College women's basketball team got off to a strong start to its 2019-20 campaign with a 95-51 home victory over Southwestern Community College, Friday evening, Nov. 1. 

Guard Dallie Hoskinson flirted with a triple-double finishing with 20 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, all career-bests. The sophomore from Hugoton, Kan., hit 8-of-13 shots, including a 3-pointer, and 3-of-5 at the line. 

Three other starters also finished in double figures. Sophomore guard Christen Curry scored 12 points. Indiana State sophomore transfer Krystal Rice finished with 11 points, and freshman forward LaJahda Boyland added 10 points. Boyland was also the top rebounder with 14, giving her a double-double in her collegiate debut. 

Freshman guard Jaylen Townsend came in off the bench to pour in 12 points to go along with five boards. 

Other key efforts were turned by sophomore forward KK Jackson-Morris (8 points, 5 rebounds), sophomore guard Amber Kettering (6 points, 2 assists), freshman forward Le'Yanna McGinnis (6 points, 5 rebounds), freshman guard Taniyah Henry (5 points, 5 rebounds) and freshman guard Gabby Fuller (5 points, 2 assists). 

As a team, the Lady Cavaliers shot 48.6 percent from the field, and 50 percent from 3- point range. Johnson County held Southwestern to 31 percent overall and 15.8 percent from long range. JCCC also outrebounded the Trojans 57-to-21.
