JCCC remains undefeated with two road victories last week

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County Community College women's basketball team improved to 10-0 on the season with a pair of road victories last week. They posted a 94-32 blowout at Missouri Southern State JV on Thursday, Nov. 21, and downed Arkansas State Mid-South 68-45, Saturday Nov. 23. 

In with over MSSU, freshma  guard Jaylen Townsend poured in a team-high 15 points to power the Lady Cavaliers to the win. Townsend was 5-of-9 from the field, including four 3-pointers. She also had three rebounds and led the team with four assists and four steals. 

Sophomore guard Christen Curry and freshman guard Bryonna Coulter each finished with 13 points. Both were 6-of-8 from the field and made one free throw. Curry also pulled down nine rebounds, and Coulter was two back with seven boards. 

Also in double figures scoring were freshman forward Le'Yanna McGinnis and freshman guard Taniyah Henry with 12 and 10 respectively. 

Sophomore guard Dallie Hoskinson again flirted with a triple-double, finishing with seven points, 11 rebound and 11 assists. She already has a school-record two this season, and has come close on four other occasions. 

In the win at Arkansas State Mid-South, McGinnis and sophomore guard Krystal Rice combined for 36 of the Lady Cavaliers 68 points. McGinnis poured in a season-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting with five free throws. She also pulled down eight rebounds. Rice finished with 17 points and had four rebounds and three assists. 

Sophomore forward KK Jackson-Morris was the only over JCCC player in double figures scoring with 11 points. 

Freshman guard Dallie Hoskinson chipped in nine points and led the Lady Cavaliers 13 rebounds. 

Johnson County will play on the road for a third straight game on Tuesday, Nov. 26 against Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. They return home to host Metropolitan Community College on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 5:30 p.m.
