OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 18-ranked Johnson County Community College women's soccer team opened its 2019 Kansas Jayhawk Conference season with a 6-1 victory over Allen Community College in Iola, Kan., Saturday afternoon.  The Lady Cavaliers scored two goals in the first half and put the game out of reach with four more in the second half. 

Sophomore forward Kayla Brashear and sophomore defender Isabella Polanco each had a goal and two assists in the match. Brashear scored JCCC's third goal and assists on the first and fifth scores. Polanco netted the fifth goal and assisted the fourth and sixth goals 

Freshman midfielder Kayla Ambrose scored twice for the second straight game. She netted the game's first goal in the 28th minute and the last goal with three minutes to play. 

Sophomore forward Millie Hopkisson had a goal and assist and freshman midfielder Gail Logan netted her first goal of the season on an assist by freshman defender Tio Krizogono in the 31st minute. Her score proved to be the game winner. 

Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Ways improved to 3-0-0 on the season, while lowering her goals against average to 0.62. She played the first 55 minutes before freshman Isabelle Joseph took over for the final 35 minutes. Ways saved three shots, and Joseph stopped four and allowed a goal. 

Johnson County will now turn their focus on Wednesday's match against No. 5-ranked Butler Community College, who is coming off a 2-1 double-overtime loss to Cowley on Saturday. The loss snapped Butler's 26-game home conference streak.
