OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College proved that the third time is truly a charm as the Lady Cavaliers defeated No. 20 Kansas City Kansas Community College in a decisive match to continue in the Plains District playoffs. The Lady Blue Devils (13-4-0), winners of both regular season meetings with JCCC, saw its first winning season in the 8-year history of the sport at KCKCC come to an end. 

The Lady Cavaliers (13-6-1) advance to the Plains District semifinals at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Wednesday, Nov. 6. Johnson County will take on No. 7-ranked Seminole State College (18-0-2) at 3 p.m.  The other semifinal match pits No. 17 Cowley College (14-3-0) against No. 9 Hill College (12-2-2) at 1 p.m. 

Johnson County took an early 1-0 lead when freshman midfielder Audrey Peterson lofted a goal from outside the box at the 15:11 mark of the first half. It was Peterson's fifth goal of the season, but first game-winner. Sophomore midfielder Morgan Carranza provided the assist. 

The Lady Cavaliers clinched the victory when Carranza converted on a penalty kick with 16-mintues, 59-seconds left in the match. 

Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Ways saved all eight shots she faced, and picked up her first full shutout of the season and the team's sixth overall. On the season, Johnson County has only given up 20 goals in 20 matches.
