OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Mike Jeffers, the men's basketball coach at Johnson County, won the 550th game of his 32-year coaching career Wednesday night when his Cavaliers defeated Fort Scott, 69-43. All but 84 of those victories have come during his tenure at JCCC.  Jeffers spent four seasons at Brewton Parker before taking over at JCCC in the summer of 1991.

Leading 17-11 with 9:28 to play in the first half, the Cavaliers closed out the half on a 23-to-3 run for a halftime lead of 40-14. Fort Scott was never a threat in the second half, and Jeffers had the opportunity to get his reserves some key minutes on the floor.

Sophomore guard Nick Larkin, coming of his triple-double performance against Kansas City Kansas Monday night, led the Cavaliers with 12 points. He was 5-of-6 from the field, with two 3-pointers. He also had six rebounds and four assists.

Sophomore guard General Williams finished with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting and sophomore forward David Turner added 10 points and seven boards.

With the victory, Johnson County remained tied for first place in the conference with Highland. Both teams are 6-1 in conference play, with three games left in the regular season.  The Cavaliers host Labette on Saturday afternoon at 4 pm., and close out the campaign on the road at Hesston Feb. 20, and at Kansas City Kansas Feb. 23.
