OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Sophomore midfielder Brecken Hoy delivered when it mattered most, converting her second penalty kick attempt of the night to propel the No. 2-ranked Johnson County Community College women's soccer team to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Neosho County Community College Saturday evening at the JCCC Soccer Complex.
After her first penalty kick was stopped by Panther goalkeeper Evie McKane, Hoy was not to be denied a second time. She calmly buried her next opportunity into the lower left corner of the net, breaking the scoreless deadlock and securing Johnson County's 15th consecutive win of the season.
"Brecken showed tremendous composure," said head coach Jim Schwab. "It's not easy to step up a second time after being stopped earlier, but she trusted her preparation and delivered in a big moment."
The Cavaliers dominated possession throughout the match, firing 20 total shots — 14 on goal — while holding Neosho County to just four shots, two of which reached JCCC goalkeeper Avery Young. Ten of Johnson County's 15 first-half shots were on target, but McKane's stellar play kept the Panthers within striking distance.
With the win, Johnson County improves to 15-0-0 on the season, including 11 shutouts, continuing one of the best defensive stretches in program history.
Saturday's match also marked the Cavaliers' final home contest of the regular season. JCCC now heads out for three straight road games to close the campaign, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Pratt Community College.
