JCCC downs Neosho County 3-0 to capture third straight Region 6 title

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 1-ranked Johnson County Community College women's soccer team continued its historic run Saturday afternoon, claiming its third consecutive NJCAA Region 6 Division II championship with a 3-0 victory over Neosho County Community College.

With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 20-0-0, setting new program records for both consecutive wins and total victories in a single season.

Freshman defender Leonie Widmann opened the scoring in the 21st minutes off a pinpoint  cross from sophomore midfielder Brecken Hoy. The assist was Hoy's 20th assist of the season, tying her for the national lead.

The match remained tightly contested until the 82nd minute when sophomore forward Jill Lenherr broke free off a pass from sophomore forward Riggs Kuhn to double JCCC's advantage.  Just five minutes later, sophomore forward Samantha Pond threaded a perfect pass through the defense to freshman forward Darby Howard, who sprinted past the back line and slotted home the final goal to secure the 3-0 victory.

With the regional crown in hand,  Johnson County advances to the NJCAA D-II North Plains District Championship, where the Cavaliers will face Iowa Lakes Community College on Friday, November 7 in Esterville, Iowa. The winner earns a berth in the NJCAA D-II National Tournament, scheduled for November 16-22 in Wichita, Kan.
