Barton ends JCCC women's and men's soccer seasons

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Both Johnson County Community College women's and men's soccer teams had their 2018 seasons come to a close at Barton Community College last week.  The Lady Cavaliers fell 2-1 in the semifinals of the Region VI tournament, and finished the season with a mark of 11-7-2.  The men lost in the first round of the playoff to the Cougars, 5-1, and posted a 9-9-1 record.

In the women's game, Barton took the lead 1-0 with a goal by Laura Maria in the 19th minute. It remained 1-0 until freshman Kayla Brasher found the back of the net in the final minute of the half. Barton's Larissa Fagundes scored what proved to be the game winning goal in the 54th minute.

Brasher finished the season as the Lady Cavaliers top scorer with 27 points. She also led the team with 11 goals and tied for second with five assists.  Three of her scored proved to be game winners.

In the men's game, Barton's Tevin Rochester scored two goals in the first, then the Cougars added three more before the Cavaliers could get on the board. Gabriel Arraes netted Barton's third and fourth scores, and Nicolas Torres provided the fifth goal.

JCCC freshman Axxel Chazaro prevented a shutout with a score in the 88th minute.

Sophomore Eloy Flores provided the assist. Chazaro finished as the team's leading scorer with 21 points. He also led in goals scored with eight and was tied for third with five assists.
