Johnson County picks up a win and tie over the weekend

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College women's soccer team snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon with a 2-nil victory over Coffeyville. A day later, they battled Southwestern to a 1-1 double overtime tie. 

In the victory over Coffeyville, sophomore forward Kayla Brashear put the Lady Cavaliers on the board in the 19th minute with her fifth goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Aina Blanch-Lopez provided the assist.

Ambrose also tallied the game-tying score against Southwestern on Sunday afternoon. Trailing 1-0, Blanch-Lopez found Ambrose in the 49th minute to knot the game 1-1. 

Freshman goalkeeper Isabelle Joseph saved all four shots she faced against Coffeyville, earning her first win of the season. 

Freshman keeper Olivia Ways saved four of the five shots she faced against Southwestern to earn the tie. She is 3-3-1 on the season and has allowed only six goals in seven games played. 

Johnson County returns to the pitch on Wednesday, September 25, to host Neosho County Community College in a Kansas Jayhawk Conference match.  They travel to Texas to take on No. 2-ranked Tyler Junior College on Friday, September 27, and No. 1-ranked D-III Richland College on Sunday, September 29.
