Men’s soccer battles Cowley for KJCCC title today

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's soccer team will look to add a sixth Kansas Jayhawk Conference title to his impressive history when the Cavaliers host Cowley in the final regular season match of 2019 Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. 

The Cavaliers (6-1-2) are in second place behind Cowley (7-1-1) in the KJCCC East Division. Johnson County can secure the conference championship with a victory over the Tigers on Monday afternoon. With a victory, Johnson County would finish conference play at 7-1-2 (.800), and Cowley would fall to 7-2-1 (.750).  Earlier this season, these two battled to a 0-0 double overtime tie. The Cavaliers last won a conference title in 2016. 

Johnson County earned the opportunity to play for the championship by defeating Neosho County 1-nil Saturday night in Chanute, Kan.  

Freshman midfielder Manuel Escobedo netted his first goal of the season in the 37th minute of the match. Sophomore midfielder Marcos Vinicius provided his team leading seventh assist of the season. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Pedro Ivaskoksi stopped all six shots he faced to earn his fourth shutout of the season.
