Men’s soccer team announces its 2019-20 team awards

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's soccer announced its team MVP, Cavalier and Academic award winners for the 2019-20 season today.

Sophomore midfielder Brad Tulley (Hydel/Kingston, Jamaica.) was selected the team's most valuable player. The Cavalier award was given to sophomore defender Luke Andrews (Andover College/Andover, Hampshire, England) and the top academic performer was sophomore midfielder Marcos Vinicius (EEB Pedro Maciel/Concordia, Brazil). All three helped the Cavaliers to a 12-6-3 mark and a runner-up in the Plains District Tournament.

Tulley played in 20 matches, 15 as a starter, while earning first-team All-East Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and second-team All-Region VI honors. He tallied seven goals and six assists for 20 points, ranking second on the team in all three categories. He led the team with five game-winning assists, which is the second highest season total in team history. Tulley tied for 14th in the conference in goals, tied for sixth in assists and tied for 11th in points. He also netted the team's first goal of the 2019 season, which proved to be the game winner in a 4-0 victory over East Central.

Andrews proved to be one of the top defenders in the conference over his two seasons in a Cavaliers uniform. Twice he was selected first-team All-East Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. Last year he keyed a defensive unit that posted a goals against average of 1.14, fifth-best in the league, with seven shutouts, third-best in the conference. He also helped out offensively with two goals scored. He had a goal and an assist his freshman season. Andrews was the team's Cavalier Award winner last year as well.

Like his teammate Andrews, Vinicius demonstrated he was one of the conference's top midfielders over the previous two years, earning  first-team All-East Kansas Jayhawk Community College honors as freshman and a sophomore. The team's MVP last year, Vinicius also was selected as a second-team All-Region VI performer this year.  He had two goals, a team leading seven assists, for 11 points, third-most on the team. He ranked second on the team with four game-winning assists, which ranks tied for third on JCCC's season chart. He provided Tulley with the game-winning assist in the Cavaliers 4-0 win over East Central in the season opener. Vinicius also earned JCCC student-athlete academic honors in the fall semester with a 4.0 GPA.
