Cavaliers come from behind to notch first win of the season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's soccer was dominating Crowder College in all aspects of their match over the first 86 minutes Monday night except one place.. the scoreboard. 

Jason Puente put Crowder up 1-0 early in the match, finding the back of the net in the sixth minute. But the match took a turn toward the Cavaliers favor in the 55th minute when a Crowder player was issued a red card, and they had to play a man down the rest of the way 

However, with four minutes to play, sophomore forward Eduardo Goulart fed freshman forward Byran Coss for a team tying goal, and eight minutes later Goulart was again the offensive spark, finding sophomore midfielder Aturo Rodriguez to five the Cavaliers a 2-1 overtime victory over Crowder.  It was JCCC's first win of the season, and first for new head coach Jeff Cole. 

"We were all over them, plus they were playing with only 10 men," said JCCC head coach Jeff Cole.  "The victory means a lot to the boys. They all had a smile on the faces after the match." 

Sophomore Luis Montalvo got the start the net, and made three saves and allowed one goal. Freshman Brandon McGaugh stepped in the net for the final 49 minutes. He made two saves and was awarded the victory.

The Cavaliers (1-6-0)  return to conference play Wednesday, April 28, when they travel to take on Coffeville (4-3). The Ravens soundly defeated JCCC in the season opener, 7-1.
