JCCC men’s soccer improves to 2-0-0 with 3-1 win over Crowder

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County men's soccer team followed up their season opening 4-3 win over Indian Hills with a 3-1 neutral site victory over Crowder on Saturday, August 20. 

Like the opener, the Cavaliers struck first. Freshman midfielder Homer Skidmore (Blue Springs, Mo.) netted his second goal of the season off a feed from sophomore forward Faisal Arshad (Wichita, Kan.). 

Crowder tied the game with just under a minute to play in the first half, but JCCC got back on top in the 56th minute when freshman forward Jacksyn McIntyre (Blue Springs, Mo.) fired a long ball to sophomore forward Alan Lopez (Dodge City, Kan.) who beat the goalkeeper on-one-on for his first goal of 2022. 

Lopez, who dished out three assists in the opening victory, picked up his second goal of the season and match in the 70th minute off a rebound. Sophomore forward Ashton Owen (Lawrence, Kan.) was credited with the assist. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Brandon McGaugh (Prairie Village, Kan.) earned the victory stopping four of the five shots he faced.

Johnson County (2-0-0) will open conference play on Wednesday, August 24 against Allen in Iola, Kan. They play their home opener on Saturday, August 27 against Jefferson at 4 p.m.
