JCCC men’s soccer moves up in national rankings, post 4-0 shutout over Southeast

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Despite having its seven-game win streak snapped in a 3-1 loss to No. 4-ranked Cowley, the Johnson County men's soccer jumped five spots in this week's NJCAA D-I Poll, going from No. 19 to No. 14. 

The Cavaliers also got back into the win column with a 4-0 shutout over Southeast Community College Monday evening.  With the victory, Johnson County improves to 10-4-0. 

Johnson County got goals from four different players.  Sophomore midfielder George Hanson started the scoring on an assist from sophomore forward Ashton Owen just two-minutes, 31-seconds after the start. It was Hanson's second goal of the season. 

Owen made in 2-nil with his fourth goal just before halftime. Sophomore forwards Alan Lopez and Evan Burns were credited with the assists. 

The Cavaliers added two more insurance goals late in the second half.  Sophomore forward Johan Hernandez netted an unassisted score in the 73rd minute, his third of the season, and freshman midfielder Homer Skidmore capped the scoring with his fourth goal in the 84th minute. Freshman defender Alaa Alamood earned the assist.

Sophomore goalkeepers Brandon McGaugh and Cole Stewart each played 45 minutes. McGaugh got the start and earned the victory, upping his season mark to 6-2-0. 

Johnson Country will have some time rest before its next match. They host cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas on Wednesday, October 12 at 5 p.m.
