Cavaliers take down Dodge City on overtime

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's soccer team improved to 11-5-0 on the season with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory at Dodge City Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore forward Alan Lopez scored a penalty shot in the 100th minute for the winning score, his second goal of the game. He put JCCC up 2-nil in the 41 minute.

Sophomor midfielder Abdullah Ahmed put the Cavalier up 1-0 in the 32nd minute with his first goal of the season. Freshman Jacksyn Mcintyre was credited with the assist.

Dodge City cut the deficit in half in the 64th minute, then tied the game with a goal in the 71st minute. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Brandon McGaugh earned the victory. He stopped five of the seven shots he faced. 

"Our league is so incredibly difficult week in and week out, that anytime you can get a victory, let alone one on the road, you will take it," said JCCC head coach Jeff Cole. "I have stressed this to my player over and over that there on no days off in this league. You have to play at a high level just to compete. I am very happy and proud of the performance from the team. It showed we have a lot of character and belief for each other. All our focus now is on our next match."

 

Johnson County has two games left in the regular season, both on the road. The travel to Chunute on Wednesday, October 19 to face Neosho County, then head to Great Bend on Tuesday, October 25 to face Barton.
