JCCC advances to semifinals of Plains District Tournament with 2-1 win over Dodge City

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Survive and advance, that is the blueprint for postseason sports. The is exactly what the No. 18-ranked Johnson County men's soccer team did on Sunday afternoon at the JCCC Soccer Complex, as they defeated Dodge City 2-1 in the first round of the Plains District Tournament.  With the win the Cavaliers improve to 13-6-0 on the season, the program's most wins since 2009. 

Sophomore forward Alan Lopez netted both goals for the Cavaliers, his 12th and 13th scores on the season. He gave Johnson County an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 18th minute off an assist from sophomore defender Dalton Shipley and netted the game winner with an unassisted goal in the 41st minute. This was Lopez's fourth multiple-goal match of the season and sixth of his career.

Dodge City pulled even with the Cavaliers on a goal by Janik Buch in the 31st minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Cole Stewart earned the victory for the Cavaliers, saving 10 of the 11 shots he faced. 

Johnson County (13-6-0) will face No. 5-ranked Barton (14-4-1) in the semifinals at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita Kan., on Thursday, November 3 at 1:30 p.m. The Cougars survived and advanced past the first round on a 14-round shootout over Kansas City Kansas.

The Cavaliers defeated Barton in the final match of the regular season 2-1 in Great Bend to earn a share of the Kansas Jayhawk Conference East Division title.
