OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The preseason pick to the Kansas Jayhawk Division II Conference, the Johnson County Community College softball team got off to disappointing start to its 2019 conference slate, splitting a two-game series at Allen Community College last Friday afternoon. 

The Lady Cavaliers easily won the first game, 8-0, but blew a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth, allowing four runs to cross the plate for a 6-5 loss. 

The loss snapped a 29-game win streak in the series for the Lady Cavaliers.  Their last loss was 3-2 in 2008. Johnson County is 111-16 all-time against Allen Community College. 

In the opening win, freshman outfielder Emily Fox provided all the firepower. She was 3-for-3 with a double and two home runs, three runs scored and seven driven in. Her two home runs and seven RBI tie the second-best single game in team history. Five other players have had seven RBI in a game, but it was last accomplished by Taylor Nelson against Hutchinson on April 10, 2009.  Cara Lemon owns the record with eight against Neosho County in 1997. 

In the circle, sophomore pitcher Kerrigan Dixon pitched a complete game 2-hit shutout over the Red Devils. It was her first of the season. She also struck out four batters. In the second game, she came in pitched 0.2 innings, allowing a hit and no runs. 

Also in the second game, Fox has a single, two walks, scored a run and drove in a run. Freshman catcher Lanae Salinas recorded JCCC's other RBI. The other three runs were a result of Allen errors.
