OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Freshman left fielder Megan Weigel hit a walk-off two-run home run to help the Johnson County Community College softball team defeat Labette Community College 3-2 in the first game of a double-header conference showdown between two of the top teams in the Kansas Jayhawk Division II Conference. 

With no outs and freshman center fielder Emily Fox on second base, Weigel drilled a 1-and-2 offering over the left field fence into a breeze. It was her second home run of the season. 

Fox put the Lady Cavaliers up 1-0 in the bottom of the second with a solo shot, her third of the campaign, but Labette took 2-1 lead with a two-run homer in the top of the sixth. 

Sophomore right-hander Kerrigan Dixon, the current conference pitcher of the week, picked up her fourth complete-game victory of the season while improving to 6-2 overall. She allowed those two runs and six hits and struck out five batters. She leads the conference with an earned run average of 1.52. 

Johnson County completed a sweep over the Cardinals with a 6-2 win the second game. Weigel again was the team' run producer, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. 

Dixon, now playing first base, was 3-for-4 with a triple and scored twice, and sophomore catcher Kerry Murphy and freshman shortstop Dez Duncan each had two singles and drove in a run.  

Freshman right-hander Kyleigh Lay pitched the first five innings. She allowed just two hits and two runs while mowing down a season-high 10 batters, but the game was tied at 2-2 when she came out of the game. Freshman right-hander Hallie Henderson logged the final two innings and did not allow a hit, struck out two and picked up the win, her second of the season.

With the sweep, Johnson County takes over sole possession of first place in the KJCCC D-II standings with a record 7-1, one game up on Highland and Cowley at 6-2. Johnson County will look to put some more distance between them and Cowley tomorrow when they travel to Arkansas City for a double-header. The Lady Tigers are coming off a split at Fort Scott yesterday.
