OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College sophomore pitcher Kerrigan Dixon was named second-team Division II All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Monday afternoon.
Dixon, an Emporia State University signee, helped lead Johnson County to back-to-back appearances at the NJCAA D-II Tournament while etching her name among the all-time great pitchers in team history. She also was selected first-team All-Region VI/District D, first-team All-Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference and voted the team's MVP earlier this season.
"Kerrigan has had a huge hand in the success of our program over the last two seasons," said JCCC head coach Aburee Brattin-Volkens. "She worked very hard on and off the field and grew into an All-American pitcher as a result of all that hard work. She did whatever her team needed, and was a huge asset in the batters box as well as in the circle. Kerrigan played through injury and fought hard to recover from off season surgery to come back and have a record book season."
Dixon backed up a productive freshman year with an even better sophomore campaign. She made 24 appearances in the circle, 19 as a starter, with 12 complete games and two shutouts She posted a 15-5 record, with 109 strikeouts in 133 innings pitched, and an ERA of 1.79, which ranked second in the conference and 11th in the NJCAA. She also ranked tied for seventh in the conference in wins, ninth in innings pitched and ninth in strikeouts.
For her career, Dixon ranks tied for 12th in wins (30), 11th in innings pitched (268), 10th in games started (42), 10th in games completed (27) and strikeouts (168).
Dixon also earned JCCC student-athlete academic honors in 2018 and 2019.
"Kerrigan has faced the best hitting and pitching that the NJCAA has to offer and has proven herself. We are excited for her take her talents to the NCAA and find more success in the MIAA and at Emporia State, while representing our program along the way," Brattin-Volken said.
