OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County freshman infielder Aspen Burgardt stands alone atop the JCCC single-season home run record book. She entered play Saturday afternoon tied for the lead with 18 set by Krista Cummings in 2008.

In the bottom of the fifth inning of the second game of double header against Highland, Burgardt blasted the record breaker over center field for the final run in a 5-2 victory over the Scotties.  She started the scoring with an RBI single in the bottom of the first.

In the third, sophomore right fielder Gracie Ramsey had an RBI double and freshman shortstop Jaylee Jefferson drove in two runs with a single to put JCCC up 4-1.

Sophomore right-hand pitcher Maggie McNally earned a complete-game victory allowing three hits, two runs, one earned with four strikeouts.

In the opener, the Lady Cavaliers took the game in dramatic fashion, with a 7-6 walk-off victory over the Scotties.

Burgardt got the scoring started with an RBI double in the bottom of the first. That hit helped her break the season extra base hit record of 42 set by Kathy Kiblinger in 2005.

Sophomore first baseman Kate Ediger collected two extra base hits in the game. She doubled and scored in the fourth inning and blasted a two-run homer fifth.

Sophomore left fielder Taryn Burkhardt, Jefferson, and freshman outfielder Haley Bryant also each drove in a run.

Freshman right-hander Mariah Unverzagt began the game in the circle for JCCC. She gave up seven hits and three runs, only one earned, with two strikeouts over four innings. Freshman left-hander Kaelyn Conrad followed with two innings of relief, giving up three unearned runs.  McNally closed out the game to earn the win by striking out the side.

No. 8 Johnson County (31-7, 10-2) will travel to Hesston to take on the Larks in a double header on Tuesday, April 23, followed by a road double header at No. 17 Cowley on Thursday, April 25.
