JCCC women’s soccer has impressive start to 2019 season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College women's soccer team got off to an impressive start to its 2019 season with a pair of blowout victories over the weekend. In their season opener, the Lady Cavaliers blanked Iowa Central Community College 6-0, and two days handed Jefferson College an 8-1 loss. 

In the win over Iowa Central, sophomore forward Kayla Brashear netted JCCC's first three scores, two in the first half and one in the second. 

Freshman defender Isabella Polanco made it 4-0 in the 60th minute, and freshman defender Tio Krizogono found the back of the net in the 70th and 81st minutes to close out the scoring. 

Freshman goalkeepers Oliva Ways and Sydney Jones combined for the shared shutout. 

In the win over Jefferson, the Lady Cavaliers scored seven of the eight goals in the first half. Freshman midfielder Audrey Peterson registered a hat trick scoring JCCC's final three scores in the match. 

Freshman midfielder Kayla Ambrose scored twice and provided one assist. Single goals were provided by Krizgono, sophomore forward Megan Nugent and sophomore forward Millie Hopkisson. Freshman forward Izzy Pierce and Hopkisson each provided two assists. 

Ways played the first half to pick up her second victory. Jones and freshman Isabelle Joseph split time in the second half. 

Johnson County travels to Iola, Kan., Saturday, September 7 for a conference match with Allen Community College, then return home to host No. 8-ranked Butler Community College at Wednesday, September 11 at 4 p.m.
