OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Sophomore forward Kayla Brashear scored the game-winning off a feed from sophomore Megan Nugent in the 105th minute to lead the Johnson County women's soccer team past Iowa Western, 2-1, in double overtime Sunday in Council Bluffs, Iowa. With the victory, the Lady Cavaliers improve to 9-6-1 on the season.

Brashear, who was the Kansas Jayhawk Conference Offensive Player of the Week last week, now leads the Lady Cavaliers with 11 goals, including five game winning scores which also leads the conference. She is tied for seventh in the KJCCCC for goals scored.

Brashear and Nugent hooked up in the 47th minute to give Johnson County a 1-0 lead over Rievers.  It was Nugent's fourth goal of the season, and Brashear's fourth assist.

Iowa Western freshman midfielder Lina Jaime tied the match in the 72nd minute with an unassisted goal.

JCCC freshman goalkeeper Olivia Ways, last week conference keeper of the week, stopped four of the five shot she faced including one in the first overtime period. Ways improved her record to 6-5-1. She currently has a goals against average of 1.22, fourth lowest among the conference goalies.

Johnson County has two remaining conference games, both on the road. They face Coffeyville Community College on Wednesday, Oct. 16, and close out the regular season at Neosho County Community College on Saturday, Oct. 19.  The Lady Cavaliers will need to win both matches in order to qualify for postseason play. JCCC has never missed the playoffs in its 21-year history.

Coffeyville is currently in fourth place ahead of JCCC at 6-4-0. Johnson County defeated the Ravens earlier this season 2-0. Neosho County is in sixth place with a 1-7-1 mark. The Lady Cavaliers handed the Panther a 3-nil loss back on Sept. 25.
