Women’s soccer secures playoff spot with 8-0 win at Neosho County

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College women's soccer team stamped their postseason ticket with an 8-nil victory at Neosho County Community College Saturday evening.  Needing to a victory to secure a playoff spot, the Lady Cavaliers scored four goals in the first half and added four more in the second half, for an easy win over the Panthers. 

Head coach Jim Schwab got multiple goals from his two leading scorers, sophomore Kayla Brashear and freshman Kayla Ambrose.  Brashear netted the first and eighth goals, and now leads the league with six game-winning scores. Ambrose scored the third and fourth goals. 

Sophomore forward Megan Nugent provided one score and three assists, and sophomore midfielder Aina Blanch-Lopez and freshman forward Izzy Pierce each had a goal and assist. 

The other score was provided by sophomore midfielder Cielo Rivera on a penalty kick, and freshman midfielder Audrey Peterson and sophomore forward Millie Hopkisson each recorded an assist. 

Freshman goalkeepers Oliva Ways and Sydney Jones shared the shutout. Ways started and picked up the win. She stopped two shots. Jones was credited with four saves. 

Johnson County finished the regular season 11-6-1 overall, and 7-5-0 and in fourth place in the Kansas Jayhawk East Division.  They will face West Conference Champion Cloud County (14-2-0/12-0-0) in the first round of the playoffs.
