Six Lady Cavaliers earn All-KJCCC women’s soccer honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Six members from the Johnson County Community College women's soccer team were among those selected to the All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference teams.  Five were named to the second-team, and one was an honorable mention selection. 

Second-team was awarded to sophomore forward Kayla Brashear, sophomore midfielder Cielo Rivera, sophomore defender Kayla Flores, freshman defender Alexa Pittman and sophomore defender Brooklyn Armbruster. Sophomore midfielder Aina Blanch-Lopez was on the honorable mention team. These six helped the Lady Cavaliers to a 13-7-1 record, a No. 18 final ranking and reach the semifinals at the Plains District Tournament. 

Brashear, who was a first-team all-conference pick as a freshman, led the team in 2019 with 34 points and goals scored with 15. She also had four assists. She led the KJCCC and ranked tied for sixth in the NJCAA with seven game-winning goals. She also ranked ninth in the conference in points and fifth in goals scored.  Twice during the season, she was selected the KJCCC Player of the Week. Brashear closes out her career ranked 21st all-time in points with 61, and 15th all-time in career goals with 26. She is also tied for third all-time with 10 game-winning scores. 

Rivera, who missed the 2018 season with an injury, fully recovered and proved to be a key performer in the midfield area. She helped out offensively with a goal and three assists, and was also key part of the defensive pool in the middle. For her career, Rivera played in 40 games, 35 as a starter. She tallied 11 points off five scores and an assists her freshman year in 2017. 

Flores, Pittman and Arbruster were key members of JCCC's defensive pool that allowed only 23 goals, a goals against average of 1.08 with six shutouts.  Flores also helped out on the offensive end with three assists. Her third led to a game-winning goal in a 5-0 win over Allen on October 2nd. 

Blanch-Lopez led the team and ranked tied for fourth in the conference with 11 assists. She also scored one goal to finish with 13 points.  Four of her 11 assists led to game-winning goals, which ties her for 12th on JCCC's season chart. Her fourth game-winning assist game in the 84th minute to lift JCCC to a 2-1 upset over No. 18 Cloud County in the first round of the Region VI playoffs, ending the Thunderbirds 14-game win streak and season. She closed out her career with five goals and 17 assists totaling 27 points. She also had six game-winning assists which ties for eighth on JCCC's career chart.
