Four JCCC women’s soccer players garner NJCAA D-II All-America honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Playing its first season at the NJCAA Division II level, the Johnson County Community College women's soccer team made a big splash, finishing 18-4-2 and runner-up at the National Championship. That spectacular season now has landed four Lady Cavaliers on the NJCAA D-II All-America team.

Freshman defender Sydney Puetz was named as a first team performer, the first in program history. Sophomore midfielder Alandra Bailey and freshman defender Montana-Rose Currey were second team selections, and midfielder Sydney Hammett garnered honorable mention. Last week all three were named as first team Division II All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference performers. Curry was also named the KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year.

Puetz along with Currey played a big role in JCCC's success this year.  With their play on the defensive side, they assisted in shutting down opposing offenses. JCCC recorded 13 shutouts and a goals against average of 0.78, which ranked eighth in the NJCAA. Both players also helped on the offensive end. Puetz tallied two goals and an assist, and Currey finished with five goals scored with an assist for 11 points

Bailey finished the season as the team's third leading scorer with 24 points on eight goals and eight assists. Two of her eight scored proved to be the game winning goal, one of them was against No. 2 seed Northwest Mississippi at the NJCAA D-II National Championship. Baily closed out her career with 14 goals, nine assists for 37 points.

Hammett finished second on the team in scoring with 27 points with eight goals and 11 assists, tying her with Knight for the most on the team. She had two multiple-assist matches, highlighted by a three-assist effort in a 4-0 win over Central on October 25.  Hammett also had two game winning goals. Her biggest came on the national stage, scoring JCCC's only goal in a 1-0 victory over No. 1 seed Phoenix in the semifinals at the NJCAA D-II National Championship. She was named to the all-tournament team.
