JCCC women’s soccer named Central Regional Staff of the Year by United Soccer Coaches

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – United Soccer Coaches recently announced their 2023 Regional Coaching Staff of the Year recipients for community college division II women's soccer, and the Johnson County Community College women's soccer staff was named the Central Region Staff of the Year. 

The other winners were Holmes Community College in the Gulf South Region, Jones College in the South Region and Northwest Mississippi Community College in the Plains Region. 

The Johnson County women's soccer program is led by head coach Jim Schwab. He has been the driving force behind the program since its inception in 1999. In his 25 years as the Lady Cavaliers leader, Schwab has compiled a 368-123-22 record. His teams have appeared in the NJCAA Women's Soccer Preseason Poll in 16 times in the 25-year history (64%).

Under his tutelage, JCCC has captured eight Region 6 championships, along with six Kansas Jayhawk Conference regular season titles. In 2009, Schwab guided his program to its first NJCAA Tournament appearance, finishing runner-up. In 2023, his team earned its second trip to nationals, again finishing second in the nation. Along the way the Lady Cavaliers won a conference title, knocked off the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the tournament and finished with a mark of 18-4-2.

Sharing the honor with Schwab were his assistant coaches Alex Hagen, Maddye Hagen and athletic trainer Sarah Plowman.
