JCCC sweeps cross-town rival KCKCC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 3-ranked Johnson County Community College volleyball team returned to Kansas Jayhawk Conference play last night, and came away with a 3-0 sweep over cross-town rival and No. 20-ranked Kansas City Kansas Community College.  Johnson County won with scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-17, and now stand 9-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play. 

Freshman Mikayla Powell led the attack with 10 kills and a kill percentage of .318.  Freshman Grace LeForge hit .444 with five kills. 

Sophomore Kayla Niegenfind nearly posted a double-double finishing with a team-high 15 digs and nine kills.  Sophomore Rylie Barnum, this week's conference defensive player of the week, contributed 13 digs. She now has 932 career digs over two seasons at JCCC. 

Sophomore setter Ami Dias and freshman setter Kallie Fencske each posting double digits in assists, finishing with 19 and 12 respectively. 

Freshman Taylor Hervey was top player at the net, posting a season-high 11 blocks. 

Johnson County will quickly turnaround with two home matches on Friday, Sept. 13. They host Des Moines Area Community College at 2 p.m., followed by Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College at 6 p.m.
