Volleyball team goes 3-1 at JCCC Challenge

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 3-ranked Johnson County Community College volleyball team hosted its annual JCCC Challenge over the weekend, the Lady Cavaliers came away with a 3-1 record. 

They opened the challenge with a pair of three-set wins over North Platte Community College and Central Methodist University JV on Friday, Sept. 27. JCCC downed North Platte 25-19, 25-17, 25-12, and Central Methodist 25-13, 25-10, 28-26. 

On Saturday, Sept. 28, opened with a three-set sweep over Baker University JV, 25-10, 25-13, 25-17, and capped the challenge with a three-set loss to D-I No. 14-ranked Iowa Western Community College, 21-25, 18-25, 14-25. 

Freshman setter Kallie Fenscke had an impressive weekend running Johnson County's offense. She reached double figures in assists in all four matches, highlighted a 20-assist effort against Iowa Western. She finished with 60 total assists over the four matches.  Sophomore Ami Dias had two double-digit assists matches and finished with 39 total assists. 

Freshman right-side hitter Mikayla Powell, sophomore right-side Kayla Niegenfind and freshman outside hitter Brooke Wroten had an impressive weekend in the kill department.  Powell tallied 38 kills, followed by Niegenfind with 32 kills and Wroten with 20. Niegenfind also had 40 digs. 

Sophomore Rylie Barnum led JCCC with 52 digs increasing her career total to 1,068. She is just the seventh player in team history to register more than 1,000 digs. She needs seven more to move into the third spot all-time at JCCC. 

Johnson County returns to Kansas Jayhawk Conference play this Wednesday when the travel to Parsons, Kan., to take on Labette Community College.
