JCCC pummels Moberly Area 21-0, gets walk off 10-7 win over No. 5 Murray State

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.  – The No. 12-ranked Johnson County softball team scored 16 runs in the second inning of its game against Moberly Area enroute to a 21-0 victory, followed by a 10-7 triumph over No. 5-ranked Murray State Friday afternoon at Meador Park in Springfield, Mo. 

Freshman infielder Jaylee Jefferson drove in five runs in the inning with an RBI double and a grand slam. It was her second multiple-hit game of the season and first multi-RBI game.

Sophomore first baseman/catcher Kate Ediger, sophomore outfielder Eve Morris and freshman first baseman Aspen Burgardt each hit solo home runs in the inning.  Burgardt also tripled and drove in two runs earlier inning. 

Sophomore infielder Emma Smith doubled to drive in two runs. Sophomore outfielder Taryn Burkhardt doubled in two runs and sophomore third baseman Hannah Archdekin doubled in a run.

Johnson County added three more runs in the third. Freshman infielder Izzy Carter drove in two of the runs with a two-out single. Sophomore infielder Riahn Pinkerton started the inning with a single and scored on a passed ball. 

Archdekin and sophomore outfielder Gracie Ramsey head recorded RBI singles in the fourth to close out the scoring. 

Freshman Mariah Unverzagt started in the circle and allowed just three hits and no runs over four innings and four strikeouts. She now stands 3-0 on the season.

Sophomore Maggie McNally tossed one inning of no-run relief for JCCC with one strikeout. 

Johnson County followed with a dramatic walk-off victory over Murray State in the second game. 

With the game tied at 7-7 in the seventh inning, Burhardt blasted a three-run home run to right field to give the Lady Cavaliers the 10-7 victory. She also hit a two-run homer to right in the fourth inning. She closed out the game 4-for-4 with four runs scored and five driven in.

Murray State was first to get on the board with a run in the first, then extended their lead to five with a four-run second. 

Johnson County cut the deficit in the bottom half of the second off a two-run home run over center field by Archdekin.

The Aggies answered right back with two more in the top of the third then Johnson County chipped away with two in the fourth off Burgardt's homer, one in the fifth off a solo shot by Jefferson and two in the sixth to tie the game at seven apiece. 

Sophomore left-hander Kaelyn Conrad got the start and earned the complete game victory. She allowed nine hits and seven runs over seven innings, striking out five batters. 

Johnson County will close out the weekend with two more games Saturday afternoon against State Fair and Missouri State-West Plains.
