Cavaliers take first two game of four-game series with KCKCC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 8 ranked Johnson County baseball team remained unbeaten in East Jayhawk Conference play with a doubleheader sweep over Kansas City Kansas Thursday afternoon.  The Cavaliers travel to KCKCC on Saturday to complete the four-game series.

In the opener, Johnson County scored at least one run in every inning but the first to post an 8-1 victory and completed the sweep with a 6-3 triumph in the second game. 

First baseman Ryan Callahan and third baseman Jeremy Rader paced the Cavaliers in the opener. Callahan went 3-for-3, scored three runs and drove in two and Rader ripped a two-run double.

Left fielder Cooper Combs collected two hits and scored twice and center fielder Rhett Hendricks drove in a run. 

On the hill, left-hander Luc Fladda earned a complete game victory, his second of the season. He allowed one unearned run off three hits and struck out seven to improve to 5-0. Fladda leads the staff with 57 strikeouts in 39.1 innings pitched. 

In the second game, DH Nicholas Sall drove in two runs with a double. Callahan and left fielder Brayden Luikart each had RBI doubles and second baseman Easton Elliot collected an RBI single. 

Right-hander Cole Koonce improved to 7-0 on the season. He allowed three runs, one earned, off five hits with four strikeouts. Right-hander John Chambers dominated the final three innings, allowing just one hit while strikeout out six batters.
