JCCC baseball moves up to No. 3 in the NJCAA D-I Top-20 Poll

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Week seven of the ABCA / NJCAA Division I Baseball Top-20 Poll has Johnson County Community College ranked No. 3 in the country, up four spots from last week. 

Johnson County (33-7) joins the top three teams in the NJCAA D-I Poll with 141 points. Iowa Western Community College takes over the top spot with 160 points, moving up from No. 3, followed by Central Arizona College with 152 points. Gaston College, the No. 1 ranked team the past two weeks, fell to No. 4 with Georgia Highland College rounding out the Top-5. 

East Jayhawk Conference rivals Kansas City Kansas Community College and Cowley College earned spots in the Top-20. KCKCC comes in at No. 18, falling from No. 11 and Cowley cracks the poll for the for the first time since its No. 17 ranking in the preseason poll.

The Cavaliers are on a current 14-game winning streak in which the offense scored 10+ runs in seven of the victories including their most recent win over Coffeyville 26-8. Johnson County has swept seven series to date, won two others, and split two. JCCC will look to extend is win streak on Thursday, April 11 when the start a four-game series against Allen Community College.

Johnson County currently ranks among the top hitting and pitching teams in conference. They rank second in batting average (.351), hits (411), home runs (44), runs (380), RBI (321), extra base hits (137) and are third in doubles (81). 

Individually, sophomore Dagen Brewer ranks second in batting average (.472), third in RBI (56), fourth in home runs (15) and doubles (14) and tied for sixth in hits (51). 

On the hill, JCCC leads in strikeouts (401), strikeouts/9 innings (12.17), WHIP (1.24) and rank third in ERA (4.25).

Freshman right-hander Brandon Stone and sophomore right-hander Ryan Borberg ranked 1-2 in strikeouts with 62 and 60 respectively. They rank fourth and fifth in WHIP at 1.04 and 1.11 and seventh and 10th in ERA at 3.46 and 3.68. 

Stone is tied for most wins with eight (8-0). Freshman right-hander Josiah Golden is tied for third with seven (7-0) and Borberg is tied for fifth with 6 (6-0).
