OVERLNAD PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's basketball team (28-4) has been awarded the No 2 seed in next week's National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Tournament at Mary Miller Gymnasium in Danville, Ill.
Kirkwood Community College (27-4) earned the No 1 seed. Pima Community College (26-6) earned the No 3 seed, followed by No. 4 Erie Community College (25-5), and No. 5 (Milwaukee Area Community and Technical College (28-5).
This is the Cavaliers sixth appearance at the D-II National Tournament. JCCC cut down the nets in 2001 and again in 2009.
Johnson County is coached by Mike Jeffers, who is in his 28th season at the college, and his 32 overall as a head coach. His record at JCCC is 471-382, and his team's 28 wins this year at just two shy of the record 30 win his team registered during their 2001 championship run.
Johnson County will open the tournament against No. 15 seed Pitt Community College (23-8), of Greenville, N.C. on Tuesday, March 19 at 3 p.m., the third game of the tournament. The Bulldogs are Darrick Mullins, who is in his seventh season and has a career record of 161-94. This is Pitt's first year to qualify for the NJCAA D-II tournament.
