JCCC men’s basketball closes out non-con schedule with 36-point win over Kansas Wesleyan JV

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 10-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team capped its non-conference portion of the season with an 85-49 victory over Kansas Wesleyan JV Thursday night at JCCC Gymnasium. The Cavaliers stand 14-2 as they head into conference play Saturday at home against Highland. 

In win over Kansas Wesleyan, Johnson County jumped out to an early 10-point advantage only to see the Coyotes battle back to tie the game at 17-17. After a timeout by JCCC head coach Rand Chappell, the Cavaliers went on a 13-0 run to take control of the game.  Johnson County then dominated the second half and pulled away for the 36-point victory.

All 11 JCCC players scored with six finishing with nine or more points. Sophomore guard Massi Malterer, the most recent KJCCC D-II Player of the Week, led the team with 14 points.  It is the 13 time this year Malterer has finished in double figures and ninth time he has been the top scorer.

Sophomore guard Drake Davison posted double digits scoring for the second time this season finishing with 10 points. 

Sophomore guard Stavian Jones and sophomore forward Traymond Willis-Shaw had impressive games off the bench for JCCC.  Jones knocked down all three of his 3-point attempts while also dishing out seven assists, and Willis-Shaw pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to go along with six points. 

Other key performers were freshman forward Donald Bangham ,Jr. (9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals); sophomore forward Kyler Mann (9 points, 6 rebounds); freshman forward Brandon Mann (9 points, 3 rebounds); sophomore guard Jordan Nichols (6 points, 5 assists); sophomore forward Elijah Cole (5 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists); freshman forward Traeger Rader (4 points, 8, rebounds, 2 blocks) and freshman guard Mauryon Turner (4 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds).
