Cavaliers named NABC Team of the Week

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's basketball team has been named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NJCAA Team of the Week, the organization announced today. 

Johnson County (14-2), now ranked seventh in NJCAA Division II, registered three victories last week, including a 76-72 win over No. 1-rannked North Iowa Area Community College. The Cavaliers also posted an 89-61 win at Washburn University JV and a 75-73 home win over Iowa Western Community College. 

For the week, sophomore 6-10 center Lukas Milner led the way averaging a double-double of 16.0 points and 10.3 rebounds, along with 4.3 blocks per game. He also shot 76 percent making 22-of-29 shots. His big game came in the win over NIACC as he flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 17 points, nine boards and a career high nine blocks. His nine blocks rank as the third best single game in team history.  Milner currently leads the country in field goal percentage at 75.0 and is tied for fifth nationally with 32 blocked shots. 

Sophomore guards JaQuaylon Mays and Kylan Thomas also posted solid numbers last week. Mays averaged 17.0 points and 6.7 rebounds, and Thomas averaged 12.3 points and 9.0 rebound over JCCC's three wins. 

The week also featured Mike Jeffers coaching his 1,000th game as a collegiate head coach. That occurred on Saturday, December 14 in the win over Iowa Western. 

Johnson County returns to action on Wednesday, January 8 at Metropolitan Community College. They return home to host Southeast Community College on Tuesday, January 14 at 7:30 p.m.
