OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College faced Metropolitan Community College, formerly Penn Valley, for the 98th time last night, and like the previous 97, fans were again treated with a thrilling performance. 

The No. 7-ranked Cavaliers (15-2) managed to hold off the Wolves (6-8) 86-82 in double overtime. Johnson County was perfect at the free throw line in overtime, going 8-for-8 to secure their 15th win of the season. For the game the Cavaliers hit 22-of-24, their best effort of the season. 

Metropolitan was a perfect 20-for-20 at the charity stripe for the game, but only managed two free throws in the overtime period. 

Sophomore guard JaQuaylon Mays recorded his first career double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. He hit 8-of-16 shots, with a 3-pointer, and all four free throw attempts 

Sophomore center Lukas Milner also posted a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Milner was 7-for-11 shooting, as he continues to lead the NJCAA in field goal percentage at 74 percent. 

Sophomore guard Kylan Thomas followed with 12 points, and sophomore guard Nic Slavin added 11. He also had two key defensive rebounds in overtime and finished the game with five total boards. 

Metropolitan, who only suited up six players, was led by Alex Herndon with 27 points. 

Up next for the Cavaliers are home dates against Southeast Community College on Tuesday, January 14, and Ottawa University JV on Thursday, January 16. Both games are scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m.
