Mays, Milner earn first-team all-conference

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference announced its all-conference men's basketball teams for the 2019-20 season on Tuesday, and Johnson County sophomore guard JaQuaylon Mays and sophomore center Lukas Milner were selected to the first-team. In addition, Mays was named the Player of the Year.   He is fourth player in team history to be selected the league's MVP, joining Pat Jones (2013-14), Danzel Wright (2015-16) and Anthony Lupardus (2017-18). All three went on to be selected as NJCAA D-II All-Americans. 

Mays leads the team in scoring at 17.0 points per game, assists 123 and steals 62. He is shooting 54 percent from the field and has scored in double figures in 25 of the team's 30 games this season. He is also averaging 6.6 rebounds per game.  Mays ranks second in the conference both total points (475) and points per game. He also ranks second in 3-point field percentage (39.8), free throws made (90), third in assists and leads the league in steals.  Mays was selected the conference player of week six times during the season, the most of any player. 

Milner ranks second to Mays in scoring at 12.4 points per game, and has reached double figures in 21 games.  He also averages 7.2 rebounds and has eight double digit rebounds games, along with eight double-doubles. In the final regular season win over Kansas City Kansas, Milner posted that eight double-double finishing with a career high 33 points, along with 10 boards. He also is making 71.4 percent of his shot attempts, tops in both the conference and NJCAA. He also has blocked 51 shots, which has him tied for eighth on the Cavaliers' season chart.
