Mays, Milner selected as All-Region VI performers

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County sophomore guard JaQuaylon Mays and sophomore center Lukas Milner were selected to the NJCAA Men's Basketball All-Region VI Division II team for the 2019-20 season. Both were first-team selections. Earlier this year both were also selected as first-team All-Kansas Jayhawk performers.

Mays, who became just the fourth player in team history to be named league MVP, led the team in points with 506, scoring average 16.9 points per game, assists 138 and steals 67. He is shot 53 percent from the field and scored in double figures in 27 of the team's 30 games this season. He is also averaging 6.6 rebounds per game.  Mays ranks second in the conference both total points and points per game. He also ranked second in free throws made (100), total assists (138), assists average, and led the league in steals.  Mays was selected the conference player of week six times during the season, the most of any player. 

For his career, Mays scored 769 points for an average of 12.2 per game. He also tallied 302 rebounds (4.8) 198 assists (3.1), 112 steals (1.8) and shot 40.1 percent from 3-point range which ranks 14th all-time at JCCC.

Milner ranked second to Mays in scoring at 12.0 points per game, and has reached double figures in 21 games.  He also averaged 7.2 rebounds and had eight double digit rebounds games, along with eight double-doubles. In the final regular season win over Kansas City Kansas, Milner posted that eight double-double finishing with a career high 33 points, along with 10 boards. He also is made 71.4 percent of his shot attempts, tops in both the conference and NJCAA. He also has blocked 52 shots, which has him ranked eighth on the Cavaliers' season chart. Three times during the season, Milner was selected as the conference player of the week, and was the NJCAA National Player of the Week for December 8-15.

For his career, Milner averaged 7.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. His 82 career blocked shots rank eighth all-time, and his career field goal percentage of  67.2 set a new record at Johnson County.
