JCCC’s Milner commits to Boise State

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College 6-10 center Lukas Milner announced he will continue is basketball career at Boise State University. He picked Boise State over Illinois State, Grand Canyon, Appalachian State, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, UMKC and Nebraska-Omaha among others. The Broncos are coached by Leon Rice. 

A first-team All-Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference and All-Region VI performer this year, Milner ranked second on the team in scoring at 12.0 points per game, and reached double figures in 21 games.  He also averaged 7.2 rebounds and had eight double digit rebounds games, along with eight double-doubles. In the final regular season win over Kansas City Kansas, Milner posted that eight double-double finishing with a career high 33 points, along with 10 boards. 

He also is made 71.4 percent of his shot attempts, tops in both the conference and NJCAA. He also has blocked 52 shots, which has him ranked eighth on the Cavaliers' season chart. 

Three times during the season, Milner was selected as the conference player of the week, and was the NJCAA National Player of the Week for December 8-15, after nearly pouring in a triple-double against No. 1-ranked North Iowa Area with 17 points, nine rebounds and nine blocks.

For his career, Milner averaged 7.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. His 82 career blocked shots rank eighth all-time, and his career field goal percentage of 67.2 set a new record at Johnson County.

Milner helped the Cavaliers' program to a two-year mark of 56-12 (.824), a conference and region championship, a conference and region runner-up finish and a second-place finish at the NJCAA D-II National Tournament in 2019.

"Lukas was a late bloomer that really worked hard to be prepared for his sophomore year," said JCCC hall of fame coach Mike Jeffers. "He is a great teammate and we are very excited to watch his development over the next few years." 

Milner came to Johnson County after starting two seasons at Olathe North High School. His senior year he earned honorable mention All-Sunflower League honors after averaging 11.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Also that season, Milner helped the Eagles to a 14-9 record and reach the first round of the Kansas 6A State Tournament for just the third time in Olathe North's history.
